Cancelled Due to Broken Wrist – Flash & Magic in Mexico March 18 – 22, 2019

$375 for a week of inspiration and fun

You are invited to come for a creative adventure in vibrant Todos Santos, Baja, Mexico. Lonely Planet’s “prettiest town in the far south of Baja.” Known as an artist community with art galleries, charming restaurants, and exquisite stretches of beaches this Pueblo Magico seems the perfect place to hold Flash Writing and Collage Magic in Mexico. If you weren’t able to make the Todos Santos Writers Workshop and Art Festival in early February this mid-March workshop may be perfect for you.

From 750 word essays to six word stories Flash is an inspiring genre of literary expression. Using examples, prompts and dialogue we will explore this perfect medium for short pieces of memoir and quick flights of fancy. Welcoming all levels of experience this class focuses on the pleasure of writing and positive support in a non-judgemental, friendly atmosphere.

Every morning we will have a 3 hr. session to review published works then using prompts and timed writing explore the different tempos of flash. Afternoons are for adventures and siestas.

Magic comes early in our week when we intuitively collage a set of cards to use for divination and as writing prompts. Exploring our own personal mythic journey through the visual arts in a spontaneous, symbolic, sometimes humorous way offers us even more to write about.

Let’s have fun, write and enjoy the sights and sounds of Todos Santos. [Airfare, accommodations and gratuities are not included.]

Instructor’s Bio: Lindy Flynn

I was eight when my first poem was published (local paper, Gahanna, Ohio). Poetry and morning pages sustained me through the years, along with workshops at Ghost Ranch, Poetic Medicine with John Fox in San Francisco, memoir at Oxygen Art. A couple of years ago I took a Flash writing class - ignited - fell in love with the form!

With an MA in Transformative Art from JFK University, Berkeley, CA, I’ve taught seniors to six year olds, and everything from high school art to elementary computer lab, writing Flash to making artists books, WordPress websites to SoulCollage®. Currently I am teaching an Intro. to Flash Writing for the Learning in Retirement Group at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC. I am excited to offer this as a workshop for you in Mexico.
